A Message From Herbie Petit
SPECIAL OLYMPICS 2014 Coordinator
It was another fantastic year at this year's Special Olympics State Games in Hammond this past Memorial Day weekend. A great BIG thank you goes to Bryan D'Oriocourt, Mary Henry and Danny MacArthur for taking over this year. Linda and I have heard nothing but positive comments from the Special Olympics staff. There are always a few glitches and this year was no exception. Not until the morning of the event did we know that the American Legion Family would be in charge of the javelin event. This is the first time we even heard of it. It seems as if our American Legion Family volunteers have also inherited the presentation of medals and ribbons as we did last year. You all are just too good! And I sincerely mean that.
Thank you to all of the Posts, Units, Squadrons and individuals for the donation of $$ to supply the donuts in the morning and lunch and soft drinks for the volunteers as well as the treats for the athletes. The athletes remember each year and look forward to those treats. The Mardi Gras beads are always a big hit, too.
Well, it was another job well done and you can all be proud of what you did for those special people in the name of the American Legion Family.
