6th DISTRICT INAUGURAL AGRICULTURAL AWARD
SOUTHEAST LOUISIANA DISTRICT 4H/FFA Jr. LIVESTOCK SHOW
It’s that time of year when 4H and FFA students get together at the District level and strut their stuff in the annual Jr. Livestock shows. These young people from throughout the surrounding communities have spent countless hours in the past months feeding, grooming, training, and seeing to the medical needs of their animals in preparation for their chance to bring them all together for the purpose of showmanship, competition, and auction. There were many various classes of cattle, sheep, goats, and swine and in the eyes of District 6 of the Department of the American Legion these kids were all winners.
District 6 Commander Terry Sharp was on hand to present the 6th District’s Inaugural Award for the 4H/FFA program which falls under the Americanism program. The District presented a $500 Savings Bond to the King and Queen of this event as chosen by the District Show Committee. Each student also received a certificate designating the award and signed by the District Commander and District Americanism Chairman. This was the first year that the 6th District has presented these awards and the experience was a most rewarding one. The 6th District hopes to continue this award for many years to come and urges other American Legion Districts to contact their local 4H/FFA District Program Committees and inquire as to how they too can get involved at the District Level. As you know, The American Legion has 8 Districts across the Department and the 4H/FFA programs hold 7 District Level Livestock shows each year.
Receiving these awards were: Show Queen Cassie Mae Karl of Greensburg in St. Helena Parish and Show King Brady Dwight King of Covington in St. Tammany Parish
