6th District 2011 4H/FFA Awards |
6th DISTRICT ANNUAL AGRICULTURAL AWARD 2011 SOUTHEAST LOUISIANA DISTRICT 4H/FFA Jr. LIVESTOCK SHOW
It’s that time of year when 4H and FFA students get together at the District level and strut their stuff in the annual Jr. Livestock show held on February 4th, 2011 at Covington, LA. These young people from throughout the surrounding communities have spent countless hours in the past months feeding, grooming, training, and seeing to the medical needs of their animals in preparation for their chance to bring them all together for the purpose of showmanship, competition, and auction. There were many various classes of cattle, sheep, goats, and swine and in the eyes of District 6 of the Department of the American Legion these kids were all winners.
District 6 Department Executive Committeeman Terry Sharp was on hand to present the 6th District’s Annual Award for the 4H/FFA program which falls under the Americanism program. The District presented a $500 Savings Bond to the King and Queen of this event as chosen by the District Show Committee. Each student also received a certificate designating the award and signed by the District Commander and District Americanism Chairman. Receiving these awards were (photo above right) Show Queen Carsyn Harris of Live Oak High School in Livingston Parish and Show King Joshua Paul Scott of Loranger High School in Tangipahoa Parish.

Once again the experience was a most rewarding one and the 6th District hopes to continue this award for many years to come and urges other American Legion Districts to contact their local 4H/FFA District Program Committees and inquire as to how they too can get involved at the District Level. As you know, The American Legion has 8 Districts across the Department and the 4H/FFA programs hold 7 District Level Livestock shows each year.
A number of students were also recognized for their accomplishments and District 6 Department Executive Committeeman Terry Sharp presented four Championship Belt Buckles to the following over-all class Champions:
From LtoR: Cheyenne Jones, FFA student at Covington High School, St. Tammany Parish and her Grand Champion Angus Bull; Seth Fauntleroy, FFA student at Bowling Green School in Washington Parish with his Louisiana bred Grand Champion Simmental Bull; Zachary Barry, FFA student at Covington High School in St. Tammany Parish with his Grand Champion Simmental Heifer; and Karine Cifreo, FFA student at Walker High School in Livingston Parish with her Grand Champion Brangus Heifer.
