Flag Retirement Ceremony Held at Post 64 |
American Legion Post 64 and Cub Scout/Webelo Scout Troop 1101 held a Flag Retirement and Disposal Ceremony at Post 64 on Sunday, March 20th. The David Crockett Fire Department provided fire support for the ceremony. The troops gathered at 9 AM at the Post and Post Commander Donna Fransen-Miller along with Scout Master Barry Donewar welcomed the crowd to the Post.
Scout Master Donewar gave a brief history on the Flag Retirement Ceremony and also talked about how to show proper respect to the Flag. The Scouts then had the honor of lowering the Post Flag for retirement. Chaplain Richard Murray, Jr. of Post 64 and Scout Master Donewar showed the boys how to properly fold the Flag and then they passed it on to Commander Fransen-Miller to be placed into the fire. Each of the boys then carried a Flag to the fire to be disposed of. A total of 26 Flags were retired and disposed of.
