The Louisiana Department of  Veterans Affairs is now in the process of presenting the Louisiana Honor Medal to Louisiana veterans. The Medal, which is distinctly Louisiana, will be given to Louisiana veterans based on their military records.  The addition of a silver star will indicate wounded in action and the addition of a gold star will be awarded to next of kin of Armed Forces personnel killed in action.  Louisiana Department of Veterans Affairs is working to have medal award presentations held in each region of the state.  According to LDVA, medals cannot be mailed to recepients.  Any questions, please contact American Legion, Department of Louisiana Headquarters at 225-923-1945 or the Louisiana Department of Veterans Affairs at 225-922-0500.

SPECIAL NOTE:  Only the last 4 numbers of your Social Security number is needed on your application and you can black out all numbers except the last 4 SSN on your Discharge papers (DD-214).  Applications are being accepted by MAIL only - please DO NOT FAX APPLICATIONS.  Mail applications to the address on the bottom of the application form or to LA Dept. of Veterans Affairs, 1885 Wooddale Blvd., 10th Floor, Baton Rouge, LA 70804.
