Port Allen Veterans' Parade |
WE WANT YOU! HELP US HONOR OUR VETERANS! (From the organizers of the Veterans Parade)
Plans are already underway for this year's "Veterans on Parade" to be held on Sunday, November 8, 2009. The traditional Port Allen parade is the ONLY parade honoring veterans in Louisiana.
The parade, in its fifth year, is a tribute to all veterans who have or are serving this great country. The parade begins at 1:00 PM with the USS Kidd firing their big guns to officially start the parade. Businesses, organizations, families and friends of veterans are asked to participate by entering a float or vehicle in the parade. There is no charge to enter the parade; however, each driver will be asked to sign a liability waiver. Please call to register your float, vehicle, or group with Kathy Gautreaux at 225-344-2920.
Line up begins at 11:00 AM and the parade will roll down Jefferson Avenue, passing the viewing stands at the West Baton Rouge Museum where the elderly or handicapped veterans are seated. The parade will conclude at the West Baton Rouge Courthouse with lots of fun, food, and great music following a special ceremony honoring the military in front of the Courthouse.
This parade is organized by a small group of citizens for the soul purpose of honoring our nations' military. We need your help to continue to show our appreciation for those that have and still are serving to protect our country. Please join us by getting involved and plan to enter a float, sponsor a float, or volunteer. Donations are also appreciated to help defray costs. This year we are accepting nominations for the Grand Marshall of the parade. Call the West Baton Rouge CVB at 225-344-2920 for information on how to submit your nomination or to get more details on this great event and how you can get involved.
Thank you in advance for your consideration in this matter and we look forward to your continued support of this parade and most of all for your support of this country and our military. We will be looking for you in the parade or on the parade route, Sunday, November 8th. Mark your calendars today!
